Some reasons I like homeschooling...and some reasons I don't

Everyone has their own reasons for choosing to homeschool their children. Examples include negative social influences and quality of education amongst other various reasons. Here are mine.

1. We make our own schedule. Nobody tells us when to start or end our school day. We aren't forced to take snow days. We play in the snow AND finish the school work. That leaves room for taking days when we actually WANT to.

2. If Emma wants to drink hot cocoa while she writes out her spelling words then hey, why not?

3. I get to choose their curriculum. History is taught the way it should be. Science is taught from a biblical perspective. We can talk about evolution but it isn't taught as fact.

4. My kids stay healthier. For obvious reasons.

5. They play outside more (if it isn't freezing!) and it does everyone a world of good.

6. Emma, who is the only one old enough to have an opinion, likes me being her teacher.

7. Take off 2 1/2 weeks at Christmas? Sure! I know some homeschool families who take the whole month off.

8. We can go at our own pace. Having trouble with a certain math lesson? Slow it down until she gets it. She gets it already? Move ahead to the next lesson.

9. We can make chocolate chip cookies together in the middle of the day.

10. If we want to go visit Gramma we don't have to wait for the weekend or a holiday to take off.

So there are just SOME of the reasons I like homeschooling. Here are some of the reasons I don't.

1. I'm with them ALL day EVERY day. Pretty much. So what does that mean? Well they get a little buggy sometimes but I think I've learned to be more patient. One of the virtues. Oops! That's a reason to like it right? Sorry. :/

2. Sometimes I feel looked down on OR the ones who choose not to homeschool think I'm judgemental and feel that they need to defend themselves. Really don't need to do that. This is what WE think God has lead us to do so we're gonna do it. Enough said.

  1. Amen to that last point. Homeschooling isn't for everyone, but right now, it is for us :)
