House update and other random things

After much stress and inconvenience our unexpected house renovation (except for a few boxes to be unpacked) is complete! (BIG sigh of relief)!!! We are hoping nothing like that happens again anytime soon. In all of the packing that we had to do to prepare for the carpet installation we even managed to weed out unnecessary clutter and we are actually still in that same process. Decluttering our house has helped to declutter our minds as well and leaves us able to focus on other things.

On another note, Cody has now been moved into Emma's room! Last night was the first night and we were a bit anxious as to how it would go. Emma is used to having her own room and we were also afraid that Cody wouldn't want to stay in his bed but he did pretty well. He only got out once for which he was spanked but then slept the whole night....until 6:30....when Emma got up. We have some tweaking to do there but hey, I'm just happy that he slept all night!

With only 7 weeks to go until baby I can now focus on preparing for this little one! We are also planning a family trip to the beach VERY soon as well as a weekend at home just for Cory and me! Have to cram it all in! Lots to do and happen before the end of June gets here with Cody's 3rd birthday and my 30th birthday just around the corner as well as my baby shower and Emma's first ballet recital. :) But at least they are fun things to look forward to. Hopefully the stressful time (for now) is behind us. At least until the end of June. :)

Under Construction

One week ago Monday my normally quiet and simple life was turned upside down thanks to a hot water heater that was located in my attic! It waited to burst until my husband was out of town at a men's conference in Kentucky some 8 hours away! I came home to water dripping down my ceiling and stairway with a straight shot to the basement two floors away. My hallways and stairways were soaking wet. Talk about unexpected! I was without hot water for a couple of days and resorted to heating water on the stove to wash dishes and bathe the kids. I took my shower at the gym one night. Thankfully we were able to get the water heater in two days later and dry out the house with dehumidifiers and blowers which were annoyingly loud by the way!

After talking with our insurance we have been able to get both stairways and hallways repainted and new carpet throughout the entire house. This of course is one of the hidden blessings in all of this because the carpet especially needed to be replaced. The painters began yesterday with the spackling and sanding and were back bright and early this morning to start the rolling. With all of this being done on the inside we also have a completely unrelated issue on the outside of the house! There has been a drain in the front of our yard down under the ground that hasn't been working (actually disconnected in one spot) that has allowed all of the rain water to dump against our foundation resulting in leakage through our basement wall. So...my entire front yard has been dug out since Tuesday and I haven't been able to use my front door. It is now Friday and there is still a huge hole running along the front of my house. It will probably be next week sometime before they will be able to rebuild my front steps.

This has been a difficult week for me these last two days especially because I can't really leave my house while it's being painted and I'm starting to feel it today. BUT I think they are going to be finished today! Yay!

Next week I will have a more normal week because we have postponed the carpet installation until the following week and I look forward to a little break. Except of course the fact that I can't go out of my front door!

The first picture is the view out of my front door and the last two are of my two silly kids having fun with one of the blowers used to circulate the air while it was drying out.

I will give more updates in a few days....
