Redeem the time

Proverbs 31:27 "She watches over the affairs of her household".

"The season of young children is a time to refrain. Refrain from most outside activities, even church activities." (GASP!!!) "Now is a time to be faithful in discipline....it's the springtime of mothering. Redeem the time, don't waste it." -Sono Harris- mother to 7 including Josh Harris

I enjoy reading Joy's blog at sahmissionary.blogspot.com and this was one of her subjects this week. She has been talking about the high calling of mothering and the obstacles that can often get in our way. She also included the above verse and quote on her blog. I liked them too so I borrowed them. :) One obstacle inparticular is the obstacle of being TOO BUSY. How can we manage our homes if we're never there? It was convicting but encouraging too. Convicting in that I know I've been unneccesarily busy at times trying to do this or that. Some activity is GOOD and helpful...at times...but in moderation. Emma takes ballet. I think it's good for her but if I were taking her to ballet....and this....and that (insert whatever activity) then we would be going all of the time. I just need to remember that because it's all too easy to be pulled in many different directions and it's hard to say no.

I was also encouraged though too. It's OK to actually be a stay-at-home mom. The "stay-at-home" being the main point here. Young children thrive on routine and consistent discipline. That's very hard to do if we are out and about constantly.

So I am going to make it my goal to be at home more. Now I know there are errands that have to be run and things to do but like Sono Harris said, "Redeem the time, don't waste it."
